FSC - Kids on the Block - Caught in the Middle

Melody and Brenda are best friends. Brenda's parents got a divorce about 6 months ago and her friend, Mel doesn't understand about "Dad Weekends" or this new kind of family. Brenda explains that it's not the kids fault when parents get divorced. There are so many different kinds of families. I still love both my mom and my dad even though they live in different places. What is something you like to do with your mom or dad ?

Hi! My name is Brenda Dubrowski. My parents are divorced and it can be so confusing trying to remember which weekends I go to my dads, so we keep a schedule on the refrigerator at both places so that everybody remembers. Maybe I should make one for Mel because she forgets every time! She has been such a good friend to talk to. She didn't understand about divorce so I've been explaining that I can't
make my parents get back together again so we have worked out this way for me to spend every other weekend and every Wednesday evening with my dad.

Do you have a friend like Mel to talk with about stuff ?

I'm Melody James and my friend, Brenda is so interesting to talk to because her parents are divorced and she has a different kind of family life. I thought she must really hate that her parents got divorced and she told me that at first it was really hard to get used to and hard to understand but now things are much better. When she found out how much I missed her when she goes to her dad's she invited me to go along. I feel ok because I know she has fun at her dad's even when I don't get to go. It's fun to figure out ways to understand things that are happening.
