Bionic Legs

Mark has just finished a track and field workout using his “cruiser”; that’s what he calls his wheelchair.  He’s on the school team this year.  After practice Brenda just keeps talking about science fiction movies and TV characters.  She thinks that Mark’s cerebral palsy can be fixed just like in the movies.  Mark reminds her that most of the stuff in movies is not real and that he doesn’t have to be like a character in the movies to do the things he wants to do.  Do you think things really happen like they do in the movies?

Mark

Riley here, and boy do I love sports of all kinds which helps ‘cause I just happen to be the school sports reporter.  I’m a regular kid just like anybody else.  CP is no big deal.  I do lots of things you do only in a different way.

What is something you enjoy doing in your own way?

Hi, I'm Brenda.  I like to try to help out all my friends, but I   felt embarrassed to talk to Mark about being in a wheelchair. I thought there must be a way to fix it and it made me really curious when Mark told me that he’s “ purrrfect”.

How could someone be different and perfect at the same time?
