The goal of the Parole Protest Program is to help prevent the early release/parole of those convicted of murder or vehicular homicide. It is not the objective of the program to judge or re-evaluate the circumstances surrounding the crime. A judge and/or jury has heard the facts, determined the degree of guilt, and imposed a sentence - Parole Protest helps to ensure that the minimum side of that sentence is served.
Thank you for giving HSAC the opportunity to help you with your effort to stop the parole/early release of your loved one's murderer.
The following information will be needed for a petition or protest letter to be written to the Alabama Department of Pardons and Paroles:
1. The murderer's name and prison I.D. number must be completed in order for
letter or petitions to be attached to prisoner's file. Forms without this
information will be returned. To obtain a prison I.D. number, you may contact
the State Parole Board, the Prosecutor that handled the case, or the prison
where the prisoner is currently incarcerated.
2. Enter actual offense of which the defendant was convicted (i.e.
aggravated murder, manslaughter, etc.) if applicable.
3. Enter the actual offense to which the defendant pleaded guilty, if applicable.
4. The sentence served upon the defendant at the time of conviction (i.e. life, 10-20 years, etc.) and sentencing date.
5. The length of time prisoner has already served for the murder.
6. The parole hearing date, or date by which protests should be submitted to the parole board. Please note that the parole date and the parole hearing date are not the same.
7. Please state if HSP has circulated a petition or written a protest letter for you before and list year(s).
8. On a separate sheet, briefly summarize the facts surrounding the murder. Please enclose a statement of facts (newspaper clipping or police report, etc.) for verification.

HSP may receive requests from other organizations and the media for
information pertaining to petitions/letters in circulation. Often, these
organizations offer their assistance and help to broaden the scope of your
Parole Protest efforts. Circulating additional petitions, holding news
conferences or including information in various newsletters can increase the
likelihood of parole being denied. Do we have your permission to forward the
information regarding your case and your telephone number to:
