Economic Empowerment at Hope Place Shelter
|
|
Thanks to a grant from the Allstate Foundation, Family Services Center (FSC) provides counseling, training and case management support to survivors of domestic violence (DV) at Hope Place, a shelter operated by Crisis Services of North Alabama (CSNA). FSC is partnered with CSNA to provide supportive services at Hope Place to train and counsel residents to help them move to safe, self-sufficient lives. This project is part of FSC's Financial Literacy/ Housing Counseling Program which has been in operation since 2001 providing free one-on-one money management counseling and group training covering budgeting, asset development, credit/ debt management, affordable housing and homeownership. (FSC is a HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency.) The project provides financial education and other support to DV survivors at the Hope Place shelter through the use of The Allstate Foundation Moving Ahead through Financial Management curriculum, to economically empower survivors and help them become financially self-sufficient. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge needed to move from being dependent to independent relative to personal finance, including the decision-making skills necessary for short-term and long-term financial planning. |
